Belmont Shore Residents Association GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING September 11, 2008 Per the published agenda, the meeting was called to order by President Mike Ruehle at 6:00 pm. The Officers and Directors identified as being present were Terry Endersen, Laura Spence, John Forstorm, Merodie Gentile, Marvin Jones, Jim Lazarus, Amber Lee, Heather Altman and Heidi Van Horn. Absent was Secretary Jeff Miller. Approximately two hundred fifty additional BSRA members and visitors were present. Lt. Rosenthal from the Long Beach Police Department was present. At 6:02 pm, President Mike Ruehle presented the below list of nominees printed on a bulletin board displayed over the ballot registration desk and called for additional nominations to the Board. No other names were submitted for nomination. The below list of nominees includes the names of five write-in nominees who submitted their names after the ballots had been printed on September 8th. President Rich Carry - write in. Mike Ruehle Vice President Scott Dixon - write in. Terence Endersen Secretary Roy Hanson - write in. Jeff Miller Treasurer Tim Moriarty - write in. Chris Van Horn Members at Large Tim Clark Aileen Colon Chuck Folks John Forstom Marvin Jones Larry Jordan Jim Lazarus Matt Siebert - write in. At 6:07 pm, a motion was approved to close the nominations. At 6:08 pm, Vice President Terry Endersen (in the place of absent Secretary Jeff Miller) explained the election procedures to the public. People wishing to vote were asked to register and pay their $10 membership fee at either a desk for "current" members (inside the library) or a desk for "new" members (outside on the east patio) not already on the BSRA member roster. Upon registration, people were asked to present their receipt at the ballot table where they were given a voting card. People were advised to only vote for a total of 11 nominees. The ballot would not be counted if more than 11 nominees were selected. Completed ballots were deposited in the ballot box stationed near the northeast door of the library and watched over by John Toohig. Voters were further advised to listen to candidate statements before voting. Volunteer Election Committee members who registered members were Barbara Anders, Silvia Barger, Janet Dignam and Rosemary Duke. Greeters and crowd control was assisted by Bob O'Connor and Jim Ostach. Vote counting was conducted by Barbara Anders, Silvia Barger, Janet Dignam and Rosemary Duke. Vote counting was photographed, witnessed and reported on in the Long Beach Report by Editor Bill Pearl. At 6:12 pm, two minute candidate statements began in the following order: Mike Ruehle, Larry Jordan, Jeff Miller’s statement read by Mike Ruehle, Aileen Colon statement read by Mike Ruehle, Terry Endersen (declined), John Forstrom (declined), Marvin Jones (declined), Chris Van Horn (declined), Jim Lazarus (declined), Tim Clark (declined), Charles Folks (declined), Rich Carry and Maria Hanson made a statement for Roy Hanson. Write-in nominees Scott Dixon, Tim Moriarty and Matt Siebert were called to make their candidate statement, but did not respond. At 7:08 pm, after several calls for additional members to cast their vote, and seeing none, a motion was approved to close the election and adjourn the meeting. At 7:20 pm, all chairs and tables had been returned to their original position before the election. Volunteer Election Committee members Barbara Anders, Silvia Barger, Janet Dignam and Rosemary Duke proceeded to another location to count the votes, accompanied by Long Beach Report Editor Bill Pearl. They completed the count and announced the results at 10 pm.
